The Cardiology Fellowship offers a well-rounded experience in all facets of pediatric and adult congenital cardiology.
The ACGME-accredited Cardiology Fellowship Program at The Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital offers a well-rounded experience in all facets of pediatric and adult congenital cardiology. The fellows are involved with state-of-the-art, innovative care of patients as well as in clinical, translational or basic science research while working directly with leading faculty physicians.
Faculty within The Heart Center includes cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac intensivists and cardiac anesthesiologists. The Heart Center at Nationwide Children's is an internationally recognized program that delivers state of the art clinical, surgical and interventional therapies. The program is comprehensive and provides all pediatric cardiology subspecialty services.
We are a leader in innovative therapies and have an excellent reputation for training the future leaders in the field. Upon successful completion of the program, the fellow has met the training requirements for Pediatric Cardiology certification by the American Board of Pediatrics.
What You Need to Know
Experience
The traditional pediatric cardiology fellowship program is a three-year experience with 24 months devoted to clinical rotations and 12 months to research/electives. The fellows are expected to participate in all aspects of patient care within The Heart Center and scholarly activities. In addition, our program has an Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellowship program (3+2 program where one can do 3 years of pediatric cardiology or adult cardiology training followed by 2 years of adult congenital heart disease training). As you may also know, we also have been awarded a T32 grant to train clinician scientists in conjunction with the Center for Cardiovascular Research at Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University Medical Center.

The Heart Center
Growth is abundant in our campus. The Heart Center moved to our new hospital in January 2012. The rest of the hospital opened in June 2012 which completed the hospital's current campus expansion plan, adding an additional 2.4 million square-feet of clinical, research and infrastructure space to Nationwide Children's existing 2 million square-foot downtown footprint. This expansion makes Nationwide Children's the second largest pediatric hospital and research center in America, housing 460 patient beds.
Research
Research education and training are vital to the mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a top-ten free-standing pediatric research center and an academic affiliate of The Ohio State University, The Research Institute has an outstanding faculty, dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in pediatric research.

Advocacy
Advocacy training fosters and encourages interest in child advocacy by early involvement and exposure to its many aspects such as addressing social determinants of health, community collaboration, health finance, health policy and legislative advocacy.
Application & Selection
Applications for the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship must be submitted via the Electronic Residency Application Program (ERAS), which opens for participation in mid-July of each year.
When your completed application has been received and reviewed, you will be notified of the action taken and if you will be offered an opportunity to interview for a fellowship position. Interviews will be conducted August through October.

In accordance with Nationwide Children’s policy, foreign medical graduates must have a J1 VISA, which will require approval from the Designated Institutional Official and the Cardiology Program Director. Nationwide Children's Hospital does not sponsor H1B VISAS.
