Marilyn, Patient Care Assistant

“I’m a PCA and I’ve been here for 5 years. At 20 years old I came very close to death and seeing how the nurses cared for me is what sparked my interest in health care. I’ve always had a passion for kids and at the time I was studying to be a social worker. I immediately changed my major to Medical Assisting just to be sure that I would enjoy the health care field. I loved it. I am now in nursing school and I am so eager to graduate. I’ve been a part of the Hem/Onc family from day one and it has given me a completely different outlook on life.”

What inspires you about working at Nationwide Children's?

“As large as it is and as much as it has grown, the hospital has made a point of keeping communication open and making employees feel a part of the changes that are happening. It’s not just growing into this impersonal large corporation. It feels like a family. I can say that has not changed in the 14 years I’ve been here. You feel respected as an employee and feel like part of a family here.”
