Interventional Radiology | Improving Children's Lives Through Innovative Imaging

“There is no way I can explain what it’s like to take a kid who is in a wheelchair or who is limping and fix their problem without an incision, without any permanent implants and allow them to be completely normal again.”  - James Murakami, MD, MS

These are the outcomes that Dr. James Murakami and the Interventional Radiology team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital are making possible for children. And they are doing it by using innovative techniques to deliver precise, targeted treatments to some of the most complex childhood diseases and conditions.

Employee Stories

Autumn

“My favorite part of what I do is being part of a team that helps medical professionals diagnose and treat children. I love being able to use my knowledge and show patients that x-rays aren’t as scary as they can seem! Nothing beats getting to meet all kinds of children, listen to their stories, and see them say ‘cheese’ when I am about to take their x-ray.”

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is not only getting to take care of patients, but also working with an amazing team. Every day is different and rewarding. I have the best job in the world.”

Leah Braswell, Radiologist

Lisa

“When I was 8, I got hit by a car. Fortunately, I had no broken bones. But I remember the ambulance ride and I remember that the people at the hospital were so nice. I felt reassured and that feeling stuck with me while I was at the hospital. When I got older and started thinking about my career, I remembered that experience as a kid and I just kind of gravitated toward this job. I’ve been here for 26 years now and I can’t imagine working anywhere else.”

“As a physician leader, I strive to unify and elevate our diverse community of faculty and staff, and help to represent the interests of Asian American and Pacific Islander individuals in health care. My ‘ikigai’ (reason for being) is to transform the world by uniting people, resources and ideas from various fields of medicine, science and the humanities.”

Mai-Lan Ho, Radiologist

Samuel

“I love knowing that what I do in my job helps the patient in the long run. The radiology department in all its different branches helps to diagnose various diseases and helps track the progress of different pathologies. I also really enjoy the camaraderie of the staff within technologists, radiologists, and other hospital staff.”
