Cardiac Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship
Cardiac Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship
Nationwide Children’s Hospital is proud to launch the second cohort of our Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care APP Fellowship — a yearlong program designed for new graduate advanced practice providers seeking specialized expertise in cardiac critical care.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship, participants are guaranteed employment and receive intensive training in pediatric cardiac critical care. The program begins with a weeklong boot camp featuring high-impact didactic sessions and hands-on simulation designed to build a strong clinical foundation. Throughout the year, fellows participate in twice-monthly didactic sessions and additional simulation experiences.
Professional development is a core component of the fellowship. Fellows have opportunities to participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice initiatives and journal clubs, while receiving mentorship from leading experts. The program offers meaningful exposure to advanced clinical care and supports growth as both a clinician and a leader in pediatric cardiac critical care.
What You Need to Know
Mission Statement
The Cardiac Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Program is committed to cultivating expert clinicians and scholars who deliver exceptional, evidence-based care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. Through comprehensive clinical training, robust scholarly engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration, we prepare advanced practice providers to lead in research, quality improvement and innovation. Our mission is to advance cardiac critical care through inquiry, education and the dissemination of knowledge — ultimately improving patient outcomes and shaping the future of cardiovascular medicine.
Curriculum
The fellowship begins with a unique, weeklong boot camp that provides an in-depth review of most cardiac lesions, combined with hands-on simulation sessions and procedural skills training. This experience establishes a strong foundation in cardiac anatomy, physiology and clinical management.
Throughout the year, fellows engage in dedicated didactic sessions twice a month and participate in case management conferences twice a week. The didactic curriculum builds on the lesion-specific content introduced during the boot camp and expands into advanced cardiac and critical care topics, including mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, advanced heart failure therapies and mechanical circulatory support. Fellows also receive training in procedural sedation and provider management of mechanical circulatory support.
To support professional growth, the curriculum incorporates advanced practice provider development topics such as evidence-based practice, quality improvement, ethical considerations, and equity and diversity.
Research
Research education and training are vital to the mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a top-ten free-standing pediatric research center and an academic affiliate of The Ohio State University, The Research Institute has an outstanding faculty, dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in pediatric research.
