Trial Comparing Open vs Thoracoscopic Procedure for Lung Metastases in Osteosarcoma

Phase: Recruiting

Condition(s): Osteosarcoma

NCT Number: NCT05235165 Other Study ID Number(s): AOST2031

What Is the Purpose of This Study?

To determine if open surgical resection is superior to thoracoscopic resection for thoracic event-free survival (tEFS) in patients with resectable oligometastatic pulmonary osteosarcoma.

Who Can Take Part in This Study?

  • Patients must be < 50 years at the time of enrollment. Patients must have a diagnosis of osteosarcoma with metastasis to the lungs.
  • Patients must have =< 4 nodules per lung.
  • Lung nodules must be considered resectable by either open thoracotomy or thoracoscopic surgery. Determination of resectability is made by the institutional surgeon.

What Will Happen During This Study?

  • Patients will either undergo open thoracic surgery (thoracotomy) or a thoracoscopy (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery or VATS).
  • Patients undergo CT throughout the trial.
  • Patients may also undergo collection of tissue on study and blood throughout the trial.
