Why are we Doing the Study?
To test the usability and reliability of a virtual reality game for assessing children’s cognitive skills, such as memory, response time, and how quickly he/she can respond to different gaming rules when they change
What is Involved?
- Assessment 1 - Baseline Assessments on iPad (15 minutes), VR Assessment (10 minutes), Survey Questions (10 minutes), and Parent Survey (10 minutes while child does assessment)
- Assessment 2 - VR Assessment (10 minutes) and Survey Questions (10 minutes)
During the course of the study each participant will also be asked to answer some questions about their experience.
All visits will take place either during already scheduled clinic visits or in the Clinical Research Service Exam Rooms at Nationwide Children’s Hospital Main Campus.
Who are we Looking For?
Participants must be children between the ages of 7 and 17 who have suffered a traumatic brain injury or an orthopedic injury (excluding head trauma), are fluent in English, are physically able to play video game, and are able to answer questions after playing the game.
Compensation
Your child will be compensated monetarily for their time and any inconvenience.

Why are we Doing the Study?
To find out if Virtual Reality games will help kids regain skills after they have a brain injury.
What is Involved?
- Visit 1-Baseline Assessments on computer and iPad (45 minutes) and randomly assigned VR study game (15 minutes)
- Following Visits (At least 2 more)-VR game (15 minutes per visit)
- Last Visit-Discharge Assessments on computer and iPad (45 minutes)
- One Follow Up (within 6 months)-Assessments on computer and iPad (45 minutes), child surveys (15 minutes), parent/guardian surveys (30 minutes while child does assessments)
During the course of the study each participant will also be asked to answer some questions about their experience.
All visits will take place either at the Clinical Research Service Exam Rooms at Nationwide Children’s Hospital Main Campus, or at a public location of your choice.
