Animal Resources Core

The Abigial Wexner Research Institute’s animal care program is operated by the Animal Resources Core (ARC) and accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International, is registered as a research facility under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and has an assurance on file with the National Institutes of Health Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW).

The Abigail Wexner Research Institute is committed to ensuring the humane care of the animals utilized for research and teaching. The ARC balances compassionate animal care with research needs to deliver the highest quality service and discovery in pediatric research. The ARC team also assists with:

  • Animal health and study support
  • Animal acquisition and transport
  • Training
  • Husbandry and housing

Within ARC, the Preclinical Behavior and Imaging Core (PBIC) offers an array of resources that can support a wide range of scientific projects, providing unparalleled opportunities for the expansion of biomedical research. The PBIC team provides oversight, guidance, training and comprehensive support to investigators for all behavior and imaging units within this core.
