What Is the Purpose of This Research Study?
The purpose of this study is to provide parent coaching and education to support language development in children with autism spectrum disorder or suspected autism spectrum disorder.
Who Can Take Part in This Research Study?
People who may be eligible are:
- Parents/caregivers with children between 16-30 months of age with confirmed or suspected autism spectrum disorder.
- Children must use at least one word but fewer than 50 words.
What Will Happen During This Research Study?
- Parents/caregivers will complete an initial assessment with their child followed by three to five observations via Teams.
- Parents/caregivers will then begin a Teach-Model- Coach-Review Intervention where they learn about communication strategies and use them with their child with assistance from a speech-language pathologist.
- Parents/caregivers will complete at least 15 to 20 sessions as part of the study. Some sessions will be conducted in-person and some will be conducted virtually.
