Understanding Genes and Inherited Risks of Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa

What Is the Purpose of This Study?

To discover genes that may play a role in determining the risk for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Hopefully these discoveries will improve recognition, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

Who Can Take Part in This Study?

  • People ages 10 to 80 years old with active eating disorder or past eating disorder
  • People need to have experience with or been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa (including atypical anorexia, bulimia nervosa of low frequency, and/or bulimia nervosa of limited duration)
  • Some people with the diagnosis of eating disorder not otherwise specified (ED-NOS) or other specified feeding and eating disorder (OS-FED), may qualify for this study depending on medical history

What Will Happen During This Study?

  • The study includes one visit to either:
    • Adolescent Medicine Clinic, Livingston Ambulatory Center, Suite 3A, 380 Butterfly Gardens Dr., Columbus, OH 43215
    • Eating Disorders Clinic, Downtown Close to Home, 500 E. Main St., Suite 300, Columbus, OH 43215
    • Dublin Close to Home, 5675 Venture Drive, Dublin, OH 43017
  • The study visit will take less than 1 hour and will include:
    • One blood draw (about 2 teaspoons)

Will We Be Paid for This Study?

Yes, participants will be compensated for their time.
