Deena Chisolm, PhD, is the Nationwide Foundation endowed chair in Health Equity Research and professor of Pediatrics and Public Health at The Ohio State University. She is the director of the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research and vice president for Health Services Research in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Her research focuses on improving health and healthcare for children and families with over 120 peer-reviewed publications and nearly 20 years of continuous federal grant funding. Her current projects explore how healthcare delivery systems, health policies and social drivers of health influence healthcare accesses and health outcomes. Dr. Chisolm prioritizes bringing her research findings and her methodological expertise into the government sector. This has included being appointed to serve on the CMS Federal Advisory Council on Outreach and Education and the Governor’s COVID-19 Strike Force. She is the former chairman of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health board and current serves as board chairman of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio Board and the vice president pro tem of the Columbus Board of Health.

Jazmin Arcé is a clinical research coordinator for the Chisolm Lab in the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research. Jazmin has experiences in direct patient care, leadership and higher education. Her research interests center around impacting health disparities and ensuring every child receives the best possible care, regardless of their background or circumstances. Jazmin graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and minor in spanish. She also received a master of science degree in anatomy from The Ohio State University.
Amanda Ball, PhD

Amanda is a postdoctoral researcher in the Chisolm Lab. She is a qualitative sociologist whose research is focused on race, class, gender and geographic-based inequities in health care. Her research focuses on the social construction of inequity at a systems level, and the use of qualitative methods, including ethnographic, interview-based and archival research techniques, to expand our understanding of the contemporary world around us. Amanda received her bachelor's degree in sociology and peace and justice studies from Tufts University. She also received a master of arts degree in sociology, as well as her doctorate in sociology from Brown University.
Ashley Banks

Ashley earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in public health from East Carolina University (2011, 2013). She is currently pursuing a doctorate in public health from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with plans to graduate in Spring 2025. In the Chisolm Lab, Ashley serves as the project manager for a study evaluating outcomes from Nurse Family Partnership for mothers with previous live births. Some of her research interests include family nutrition and food behaviors, as well as topics in maternal and child health.

Kierra Barnett, PhD, MPH, is a senior research scientist and mixed-methods researcher in the Chisolm Lab. Her work focuses on the impact of structural inequities and stress on the health and well-being of historically marginalized populations. Using qualitative methods, she aims to understand the lived experiences of those most deeply impacted by health disparities and include their voices in the solutions we generate. Collaborating with government, community and academic partners on health equity research, her research aims to inform and develop future intervention studies, institutional practices and public policies. Dr. Barnett earned her doctorate in public health from The Ohio State University. She also holds a master of public health from OSU and a bachelor of science in community health from the University of Illinois.
David Ciccone

David Ciccone is project manager in the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research with responsibility for operations of the Integrated Care for Kids (InCK) project. Dave has been involved in community and health improvement work for most of his career. Prior his work at Nationwide Children's, he’s held leadership roles in nonprofit management and philanthropy at several central Ohio organizations. Dave graduated from The College of Wooster with a bachelor's degree in psychology and minor in philosophy.
Rose Hardy, PhD

Rose Hardy, PhD, is a data scientist and health services researcher in the Chisolm Lab. She uses large administrative databases to understand population health, health care policies and systems of care. Her research focuses on social determinants of health and pediatric specialty care delivery. Originally from Montana, she has a special interest in rural specialty care delivery and how systems and relationships influence that care. She received her bachelor’s degree in english from Barnard College, Columbia University, her master of public health from Brown University, and her doctorate in health services research from the University of Colorado.
Brittany Mosley, MPH

Brittany Mosley, MPH, earned her master's degree in public health with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences in 2021 from Kent State University. She obtained her bachelor's of art degree in chemistry from The Ohio State University in 2019. Mosley has four years of clinical experience in intermediate care in surgery and trauma from Riverside Methodist Hospital and two years of experience in research. Her research journey started in women's health, where she focused on quality improvement initiatives in health care among nurses, with the goal of increasing the postpartum return rate. Currently, her interest and primary focus in research centers around addressing social determinants of health and health equity as it relates to maternal and child health outcomes in marginalized populations.

Natalia is a graduate research assistant at the Chisolm Lab. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of science in medical anthropology and a minor in global health. Natalia’s previous research on water insecurity in Latin America deepened her interest in public health. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in health services management and policy at The Ohio State University, where she is focusing on health equity and the intersection of health and natural disasters.

Tiffini Payten earned her bachelor's degree in public health and health care administration from Kent State University in 2012 and obtained a master's degree in health policy and management from Capella University in 2018. With 10 years of experience in health care administration and project management, she is currently working as a program manager in the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research. Tiffini focuses on the REaCH-LAB student program in the Chisolm Lab and oversees the center's student affairs as well as its communications and marketing efforts.
