The Kelleher Lab, led by Kelly J. Kelleher, MD, MPH, research focuses on improving policy for, and the practice of, pediatric care for high risk children adversely affected by poverty, violence, neglect, alcohol, drug use or mental disorders.

  • PEDSnet – Dr. Kelleher also serves as site PI for Nationwide Children's participation in PEDSnet, a multi-specialty network conducting observational research and clinical trials across numerous pediatric institutions across the country.

Dr. Kelleher is Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health and ADS/Chlapaty Endowed Chair for Innovation in Pediatric Practice in the Colleges of Medicine and Public Health at The Ohio State University. He is also Vice President of Community Health and a lead Principal Investigator for the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He is a pediatrician and health services researcher focused on improving and measuring the quality of pediatric care for high-risk children affected by social determinants of health, violence, neglect, alcohol, drug use or mental disorders. He has been continuously funded by NIH since shortly after completing his training in 1990.

Leslie Jones is a passionate clinical research coordinator I in the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research. Leslie graduated from The Ohio State University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a specialty in sociology. Over the past five years, she has worked on various projects addressing the social determinants of health and outcomes in different vulnerable populations. Leslie’s ability to connect with others has allowed her to gain experience in recruitment and data collection. She is particularly interested in the role housing has on maternal and child health outcomes, the effect of childhood trauma and mental health, and interventions for children with incarcerated parents and homeless youth.

Katie Smith is a Senior Research Associate for Dr. Kelly Kelleher and Dr. Deena Chisolm within the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Her past research experience relates to safety and injury research and biobehavioral health outcomes. This research focuses on how biological and behavioral factors influence health. In research years, her projects focus more on improving and measuring the quality of pediatric care for high-risk children affected by social determinants of health. The hope is to improve health outcomes for children and their caregivers. Katie spends much of her time building relationships with research families and collecting valuable information that can lead to better healthcare. She loves connecting with families in central Ohio.

Ashley Banks

Ashley earned her bachelor's (2007) and master's (2013) degrees in Public Health from East Carolina University. She continues to pursue a PhD in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with plans to graduate in Spring 2024. Ashley serves as the site project manager for PEDSnet, a pediatric learning health system, in addition to coordinating other research studies and activities within the center. Some of her research interests include family nutrition and food behaviors, topics in maternal and child health, and more generally, health disparities research.

Jazmin Arcé is a clinical research coordinator for the Chisolm Lab in the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research. Jazmin has experiences in direct patient care, leadership and higher education. Her research interests center around impacting health disparities and ensuring every child receives the best possible care, regardless of their background or circumstances. Jazmin graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and minor in Spanish. She also received a Master of Science degree in Anatomy at the Ohio State University.
