When to Use 911 vs. 988
If someone is in crisis but able to engage in problem-solving and you feel they can be kept safe in the moment, 988 can provide support. Call 911 or go to an emergency department if there are urgent safety concerns, such as when a child has already hurt themselves, needs medical attention, or is at immediate risk of harm.
