Hoskinson Lab Staff
Kristen Hoskinson, PhD
Principal Investigator
Kristen.Hoskinson@NationwideChildrens.org
As a pediatric neuropsychologist, Dr. Hoskinson's research aims to improve understanding of the neuroanatomical and functional substrates that contribute to the constellation of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral sequelae of childhood neurologic injury, including pediatric brain tumor, traumatic brain injury, and complex congenital heart disease. She integrates neuroimaging methods with assessed and observable social and emotional functioning to improve early identification of those at elevated risk and at greatest need for intervention. Currently, her funded work focuses on integrating functional MRI and diffusion tensor imaging of white matter integrity, with a particular focus on social cognitive and executive functions networks.

I graduated from Miami University in 2017 with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Neuroscience. My research interests include traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, movement disorders, and other neurological issues. In Dr. Hoskinson’s lab, I have a wide variety of duties in all parts of the research process. I recruit families, conduct eligibility and safety screenings, facilitate MRI scans, administer school surveys and neuropsychological assessments, and score and organize data. In addition to this work, I apply what I learn in the lab by presenting our work to national and international conferences and writing papers for publication. Beginning in Fall 2020, I will be attending the University of Cincinnati for a PhD program in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology.

I graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. My main research interests include traumatic brain injury, brain tumor, pain perception, and health disparities. In Dr. Hoskinson’s lab, I have a variety of duties in all aspects of study coordination. I am responsible for participant identification, recruitment, enrollment, data collection in MRI scan and school environments, administration of neuropsychological assessments, data analysis, and data presentation. I am pursuing a PhD in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience at Texas A&M University in Fall 2020.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Brain and Cognitive Science (BCS) from University of Rochester in 2018. My research interests include children's decision making, social perception, and social learning. I am interested in how neurodevelopment impacts those three as well. Within the lab, I primarily focus on participant recruitment, participant and family follow-up, school survey and neuropsychological assessment administration, data collection in MRI imaging sessions, data management, and data analysis. During my time as a Research Assistant at Nationwide Children's Hospital, I hope to gain a better understanding of the relationship between neurology and social behaviors and in the future, plan to pursue a PhD in Cognitive Psychology.

I graduated from Wittenberg University in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Following graduation, I began working with children with ASD and behavioral disorders in Cincinnati as a Registered Behavior Technician. In order to gain more experience working with at risk populations in a research setting, I accepted a position as a Research Assistant in the Hoskinson lab in February of 2019. In this position, I focus primarily on assisting with participant recruitment, assessment administration, participant and family follow-up, MRI imaging sessions, and data entry and analysis. My hope as a Research Assistant in this lab is to increase my understanding of the impact of neurology on the mental health of children and their families. My long-term goal is to follow my passion for working with the pediatric population and pursue a career in Nursing so that I can provide care, comfort, and encouragement to at risk children that are on the journey to recovery and good health..

I graduated from The Ohio State University in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Disabilities Studies. After graduation I worked as preschool teacher for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and spent the following summer participating in a mental health placement in Bali, Indonesia. These opportunities have allowed me to work with a multitude of populations ranging from adults with mental health disorders to children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. As a Research Assistant I aid in the administration of child assessments and work closely with the participants and their families. These experiences have motivated me to pursue my long term goal of obtaining my PhD in Clinical Psychology, with specializations in developmental or intellectual disabilities and child psychology.

I graduated from Kenyon College in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Spanish language and literature. My main research interests include social cognition in children with ASD, social cognitive outcomes in pediatric traumatic brain injuries, neurodevelopment, and theory of mind. As a member of Dr. Hoskinson’s lab, I have a wide breadth of responsibilities including participant recruitment, administration of neuropsychological assessments, facilitation of MRI imaging, and data analysis. In the future, I plan to pursue a PhD in cognitive neuroscience, with a focus in pediatrics.

I graduated from Kenyon College in May of 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience, and a minor in Chemistry. During my time at Kenyon I also worked in research in an EEG lab, focusing on facial perception and processing. After graduating, I became a Registered Behavioral Technician, working one on one with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Although I loved working with this population, this experience made me want to get back into research to examine a multitude of other neurological and psychological conditions and treatments, while continuing to work with children. As a Research Assistant at Nationwide Children's Hospital, I hope to learn more about the developmental, social, and cognitive impacts of different treatments and therapies on both children and their families. In the future I hope to pursue a PhD in some division of Neuroscience or Neuroengineering.
