Drive Ready Venture - An App to Help Teenagers Learn to Drive
What Is the Purpose of This Study?
The purpose of this study is to find out if a phone app can help the learning-to-drive process among teenagers and beginner drivers.
Who Can Take Part in This Study?
Teens who may be eligible for this study must meet the following:
- 15.5-17 years old with one parent or legal guardian who agrees to participate.
- Driving permit holders with less than 10 hours of driving practice.
What Will Happen During This Study?
Participants will have:
- A smartphone app installed on their phone for 6 months.
- One virtual study visit
- 3 surveys throughout the study
- Some participants will be randomly selected for a virtual interview after the study.
Will We Be Paid for This Study?
Yes, participants will be compensated for their time.

We do not sell or share mobile or personal data with third parties, affiliates, or partners for marketing or promotional purposes. We only share data with third parties when it is strictly necessary to deliver our service and only under binding agreements that ensure confidentiality. Under no circumstances will mobile data be shared or sold for advertising or promotional use.

Message frequency: Message frequency varies based on study activities and participant needs. Recurring messages may be sent during your participation in the study.
Costs: Message and data rates may apply. Please contact your wireless carrier for information about your messaging and data plan.
Opting out: You may stop receiving text messages at any time by replying STOP to any Drive Ready Venture text message. After you send STOP, you may receive one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. No additional text messages will be sent unless you opt in again. Stopping text messages does not automatically withdraw you from the research study; please contact the study team if you also wish to end your study participation.
Participation in the text messaging program is voluntary. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of receiving medical care or other services from Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages.
