Director of the Center for Childhood Cancer Research; Principal Investigator
Alex.Bishop@NationwideChildrens.org

Alex Bishop, DPhil, is the director of the Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Nationwide Children's and professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University. Dr. Bishop is a cancer biologist with longstanding interests in DNA damage response, genome stability, transcriptional regulation and R-loop biology. His research has increasingly focused on understanding the unusual biology of Ewing sarcoma and using those insights to identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities. Dr. Bishop also studies BRCA1 and NRF2 biology in breast cancer and the cellular consequences of ATM loss in Ataxia Telangiectasia. Dr. Bishop received his DPhil from the University of Oxford and completed postdoctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School. Before joining Nationwide Children's in 2025, Dr. Bishop was a professor at UT Health San Antonio, where he established his independent laboratory at the Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute. He is particularly committed to training young scientists and helping trainees develop the independence and skills needed to pursue their own careers in research.

Jane Benoit, PhD
Postdoctoral Scientist
Jane.Benoit@nationwidechildrens.org

I am a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Bishop's lab where I study how fusion oncogenes disrupt gene regulation and RNA metabolism in pediatric cancers. I am especially interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying these processes in Ewing sarcoma with an aim to improving cancer therapies and patient outcomes. I obtained my PhD in molecular biology from Florida State University in 2025.
