Pediatric Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program - Toledo

Fellows in the Autism and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities specialty area receive comprehensive training in the evaluation of neurodevelopmental disorders. Clinical training focuses on children referred for suspected autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, developmental delays and related developmental or behavioral concerns.

Following the initial intake appointment, fellows complete a full assessment battery to document the patient’s developmental, cognitive, adaptive and behavioral functioning and develop individualized recommendations for support services.

Training experiences are tailored to each fellow's professional goals and provide opportunities to assess a wide range of developmental disabilities and psychological disorders. Fellows gain experience conducting autism evaluations in both specialty autism clinics and primary care settings, while working collaboratively with families and interdisciplinary care teams.

Integrated Primary Care Psychology

Fellows in the Integrated Primary Care (IPC) specialty area provide brief, solution-focused behavioral health services within pediatric primary care centers. Working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, fellows collaborate closely with primary care providers to address behavioral, emotional and developmental concerns, with an emphasis on early intervention and evidence-based behavioral strategies.

Fellows work closely with pediatric primary care providers to address behavioral, emotional and developmental concerns during routine medical visits. Clinical experiences include same-day consultation and short-term follow-up care, allowing fellows to provide assessment, behavioral recommendations and progress monitoring for children and their families.

Common referral for IPC include disruptive behavior, tantrums, school-related difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, depression, toileting concerns, picky eating and sleep challenges.

Pediatric Psychology

Fellows in the Pediatric Psychology specialty area participate in both inpatient consultation-liaison services and outpatient therapy services (internal referrals only) for patients receiving care within the hospital and pediatric specialty clinics.

Clinical experiences include providing brief, solution-focused behavioral health interventions to children, adolescents and families during admissions to general pediatrics, the pediatric intensive care unit and the neonatal intensive care unit. In the outpatient setting, fellows provide behavioral health services for a broad range of concerns related to pediatric medical conditions, further developing skills in assessment, consultation and evidence-based intervention.
