The pediatric hematology and oncology team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for childhood blood disorders and cancers. Our experts deliver specialized care designed to keep children and families close to home. We are now collaborating with the Nationwide Children’s bone marrow transplant (BMT) team to provide consultations and follow-up appointments in Toledo, reducing the need to travel for transplant-related care. Laura Schulz, MD

Laura L. Schulz

Laura Schulz, MD, is a board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist and the Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo. She earned her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, received her residency training at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and completed her pediatric fellowship in hematology/ oncology at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine. Prior to relocating to Toledo in 2024 from Anchorage, Alaska, Dr. Schulz founded the state’s first pediatric oncology program that delivers comprehensive cancer care to children across Alaska, including access to clinical trials, chemotherapy, radiation and complex surgical treatment. Through this work, Dr. Schulz was awarded the Alaska Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Ghadir Katato, DO, is a board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist treating patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo. She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, received her residency training at Detroit Wayne County Health Authority and completed her pediatric fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Children's Hospital of Michigan.
