Whether your child’s sports-related injury happened in a crowded stadium or a cul-de-sac, no one understands that better – or is more prepared to address it – than the Sports Medicine team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo. Our pediatric experts specialize in the treatment and prevention of sports injuries in student athletes of all ages and skill levels.

With a focus on prevention, Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo Sports Medicine works with sports programs to decrease the number of injuries that occur. If an injury does occur, the clinical staff works with the patient, family, athletic trainer, coach and primary care physician to assist in the recovery of the injury by developing a treatment plan and recommending future sports activities.

Meet Our Team

John Anderson

John E. Anderson

John Anderson, DO, is a board certified pediatrician specializing in primary care sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, received his residency training from Authority Health in association with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit and completed his sports medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. During his fellowship, Dr. Anderson worked with athletes of all ages and skill levels, including those in high school at IMG Academy, Eckerd College and at the professional level with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Rays. As a lifelong athlete himself, he enjoys helping his patients return to the sports they love. Dr. Anderson is now accepting new patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo.

Phillip Stokey

Phillip J. Stokey

Phillip J. Stokey, MD, is pediatric orthopedic surgeon treating patients with sports related orthopedic injuries at Nationwide Children’s - Toledo and ProMedica Physicians Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Stokey earned his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University, received his residency training at the University of Toledo and completed a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He diagnoses and treats children who have issues in their bones, muscles, and joints that inhibit movement or cause pain. Dr. Stokey’s primary clinical interests include pediatric adolescent sports medicine and pediatric trauma. He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and is an Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) inductee. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he was the mascot, Brutus Buckeye. He enjoys exercising, spending time with family and rooting on the Ohio State Buckeye’s football team.
