Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Division of Urgent Care Pediatrics is proud to offer a one-year Academic Pediatric Acute Care (APAC) Fellowship.
Welcome to the Academic Pediatric Acute Care (APAC) Fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Our program will afford fellows the opportunity to expand and refine their clinical pediatric acute care skills, while also developing the academic, business and leadership expertise to become the leaders of tomorrow in this young and evolving field.
The goal of the APAC Fellowship at Nationwide Children's Hospital is to provide the highest quality learning experience in the field of academic pediatric acute care. The fellowship is designed to be flexible enough to meet the professional goals of the individual, while also providing a rich clinical and academic experience. Fellowship graduates will have knowledge and expertise of clinical medicine, business, education, and research/scholarly activities, allowing for a successful leadership career in academic or private practice acute care pediatrics.
Throughout our one-year fellowship, fellows will have a broad range of study and a close working relationship with faculty members and mentors. Fellows will see a wide range of pediatric patients with acute care issues in the Urgent Care clinics. Clinical experience will focus on recognition and management of acute pediatric illnesses and injuries and decisions regarding transfer to higher levels of care. Fellows will also have rotations in a number of pediatric subspecialty clinics. In addition, fellows will have the opportunity to engage in Pediatric Acute Care-focused Journal Club, Educational Conferences, Faculty Meetings, Quality Improvement initiatives, and other scholarly activities.
This non-accredited fellowship is geared toward Pediatric residency graduates.
What You Need to Know
Curriculum
Fellows will achieve the goals of the program by:
- Caring for patients directly in multiple acute care clinics in our large Urgent Care network
- Working alongside acute care pediatricians and pediatric emergency medicine physicians
- Supervising other trainees including medical students and pediatric residents
- Rotating through multiple pediatric subspecialty clinics
- Participating in Pediatric Urgent Care-specific Division Meetings, Educational Conferences, and Journal Clubs
- Completing a comprehensive curriculum with a strong focus on academic excellence, including Fellow’s College (a fellow-specific educational series designed by Nationwide Children's Hospital), Pediatric Fellow Research Seminar series, manuscript and grant writing workshops, and quality improvement methodology training

Salary & Benefits
Our Fellows are hospital employees, and as such, they are eligible for the same benefits other full-time staff receive (with the exception of paid time off, which is outlined.)

Advocacy
Advocacy training fosters and encourages interest in child advocacy by early involvement and exposure to its many aspects such as addressing social determinants of health, community collaboration, health finance, health policy and legislative advocacy.
Application & Interview Process
The APAC Fellowship can accept two fellows per academic year and maintains rolling applications.
Fellows must have completed (or be in the process of completing) a Pediatrics (PGY-3) or Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics (PGY-4) residency program.

- If you are a current resident, one letter must be from your current program director
- A confidential reference report must be submitted alongside each letter of recommendation.
