About NURAG

The primary mission of the Nephrology and Urology Research Affinity Group (NURAG) is to enhance the health of children with diseases of the kidney and urinary tract by engaging in high quality, cutting-edge research.

NURAG fosters the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary teams composed of trainees and faculty in the Division of Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Pediatric Urology, and the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  In addition, membership is welcomed for trainees and faculty in associated disciplines through Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University.

NURAG meets monthly to discuss clinical, translational, and basic science research projects among its current members.  In addition, NURAG promotes scientific career development of trainees and junior faculty through mentorship, grant writing, journal clubs, joint laboratory meetings, and research awards. NURAG operations are directed by its steering committee and presented to the Group at an annual business meeting. In addition, NURAG hosts an annual retreat to showcase discoveries by its members as well as to feature prominent scientists in the field of kidney and urinary tract disorders.

Since its inception in 2002, NURAG researchers have made important contributions to advance the understanding of disorders treated by pediatric nephrologists and urologists, including: acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, urinary tract infections, congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract, and nephrotic syndrome. The group has secured over $18.7 million in extramural funding between 2015-2020.
