The Section of Urology at Nationwide Children’s provides a full array of diagnostic and therapeutic services for an extensive range of urological disorders in children of all ages. From pioneering minimally invasive procedures to conducting bench research within The Research Institute, we are committed to the best outcomes for children everywhere.

 Urology conditions requiring accurate diagnosis and therapy or those requiring major reconstructive surgery. Nationwide Children’s Hospital offers ongoing support, expertise and solutions.

  • Our diagnostic facilities include a complete urodynamics laboratory and comprehensive diagnostic radiographic and radionuclide evaluation.

  • Services range from primary urologic care to major reconstructive surgery of the urinary tract, genitalia and/or urinary sphincter.

  • We utilize advanced technology and minimally invasive approaches, including our Robot-Assisted Surgery program.

  • We feature a team of leading pediatric urologists skilled and credentialed in advanced surgical techniques.

  • Surgical support staff includes pediatric nurse practitioners, urodynamics technical and nursing staff, and a stoma therapist.

  • We can also offer outreach and support, including support groups for bladder exstrophy and other major urological disorders.

Our surgeons are experts in minimally invasive surgery. By performing a high volume of robot-assisted procedures, we have the experience and expertise to provide outstanding care and to train the next generation of urologists. Our fellows have the unique opportunity to receive advanced training in robotic renal procedures as well as pure laparoscopic, endoscopic and open reconstructive procedures.

V. Rama Jayanthi

V. Rama Jayanthi, MD, is the chief of the Department of Pediatric Urology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a clinical professor of Urology in the Department of Urology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He is also chief of Pediatric Urology at Dayton Children’s Hospital. Dr. Jayanthi is a full-time pediatric urologist with expertise in all aspects of the medical and surgical management of genitourinary problems, including urinary tract infections (UTI), hydronephrosis, urinary incontinence, hypospadias and intersex conditions. He has a strong interest in multispecialty collaborative care for children with complex conditions, as evidenced by his involvement in not only the Kidney and Urinary Tract Center but also in the Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction (CCPR).
