Ryan C. Goodwin, MD, MBA, is a nationally recognized, fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic and spine surgeon at Nationwide Children’s and director of the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care. He is also a professor of Orthopedics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Goodwin specializes in pediatric and adolescent scoliosis, as well as spine deformity and trauma. He has a particular interest in newer surgical and non-surgical techniques that improve care for children with orthopedic conditions. He brings vast experience with vertebral body tethering (VBT), which provides a novel non-fusion surgical option for growing children with progressive scoliosis. Dr. Goodwin has become a national expert in VBT technique.
Previously, Dr. Goodwin served on the staff of the Cleveland Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery, which he joined in 2004 after fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis surgery at Children’s Hospital San Diego/University of California San Diego. He completed both his orthopedic surgery residency and surgical internship at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Goodwin earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in biomedical engineering from Tulane University. In 2020, he also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Goodwin has a substantial list of peer-reviewed publications on scoliosis, pediatric spine deformity and pediatric trauma. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, Scoliosis Research Society and North American Spine Society.
