Ryan C. Goodwin, MD, MBA, is a nationally recognized, fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic and spine surgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and director of the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care. He is also a professor of Orthopaedics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Goodwin specializes in pediatric and adolescent scoliosis and spine deformity and trauma. He is particularly interested in newer techniques — both surgical and non-surgical — that improve care for children with orthopedic conditions. He brings vast experience with the Vertebral Body Tethering procedure, which provides a novel non-fusion surgical option for growing children with progressive scoliosis, and he has become a national expert in this technique.
Dr. Goodwin previously served on the staff of the Cleveland Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, which he joined in 2004 after fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis surgery at Children’s Hospital San Diego/University of California San Diego. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Cleveland Clinic and his surgical internship there as well. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in biomedical engineering from Tulane University. Dr. Goodwin also earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in 2020.
Dr. Goodwin has a substantial list of peer-reviewed publications in scoliosis, pediatric spine deformity and pediatric trauma. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Scoliosis Research Society and North American Spine Society.
