Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s
With discoveries always on the horizon, science is thriving at Nationwide Children's. Our status as an international leader in pediatric research is supported by the behavioral-, basic- and clinician-scientists within the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI) at Nationwide Children’s who are redefining pediatric health care with best outcomes for every child in mind.
One of the largest pediatric research centers in the United States, the AWRI is ranked in the top 10 for National Institutes of Health funding among free-standing children’s hospitals. The Centers of Emphasis are structured to support multidisciplinary team science and discovery, enabled by outstanding shared resources. Each center is home to faculty members working in contiguous space and collaborating with talented staff, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, residents and other students.
Nationwide Children’s has more than 840,000 square feet of research and innovation space, including research buildings and offices across campus and the off-site Biopathology Center.
Neonatal Care
As America’s largest neonatal network, Nationwide Children’s is dedicated to reducing infant mortality and morbidities so that children can reach their full potential. The size and strength of our program are supported by our commitment to academic excellence, research and innovation. The Division of Neonatology works with multiple centers of emphasis across the Abigail Wexner Research Institute, including the Center for Perinatal Research, Steve and Cindy Rasmussen Institute for Genomic Medicine and Center for Cardiovascular Research.
We are established as an international leader in the care and research for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and home to the nation’s only dedicated unit for BPD. Our cutting-edge research has led to the use of aggressive ventilator settings that are shown to increase survival rate and improve long term outcomes. For patients with BPD, that translates to life-saving care for the most fragile babies.
