Study Shows Amount and Days of Opioids Prescribed at Discharge Decreased After 2017 Ohio Prescription Opioid Cap Law

In a new study, published in PLOS One, researchers at the Center for Injury Research and Policy, Center for Pediatric Trauma Research, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Orthopedics, and Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital compared the amount of opioid analgesics prescribed to children following enactment of the Ohio Opioid Cap Law with historical controls.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Researcher Receives Grant from the Rosenau Family Research Foundation

The Rosenau Family Research Foundation has awarded a three-year grant of $375,000 total in funding to Allison Bradbury, MS, PhD, along with collaborators at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Auburn University, for studying in-utero gene therapy as a potential treatment for Krabbe disease and other lysosomal storage diseases.

4-Year Study Finds No Correlation Between Head Impacts and Cognitive Outcomes in Youth Tackle Football Players

Dr. Sean Rose and colleagues collaborated with MORE Foundation, the Complex Concussion Clinic at Nationwide Children's, and other researchers to prospectively follow youth tackle football players in real time across four seasons, which can account for confounding factors. The study, recently published in JAMA Network Open, was conducted from July 2016 through January 2020, and enrolled players from four football teams. A total of 70 male players, 9-12 years of age, who were in 5th and 6th grade, volunteered to participate, with 18 completing all four years of the study.
