Benjamin Kopp

Benjamin Kopp, MD, MPH, received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and earned his Master of Public Health from The Ohio State University College of Public Health. He completed both his pediatric residency and pediatric pulmonology fellowship at Nationwide Children’s, where he later served on the faculty from 2012 to 2022 as a pediatric pulmonologist and principal investigator at the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis.

In 2022, Dr. Kopp joined Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as an associate professor of pediatrics, serving as director of the Pulmonary Sickle Cell Program and director of pulmonary and sleep physician research. He also held co-director roles with the Center for Cystic Fibrosis and Airways Disease Research (CF-AIR) and the Pediatric Residency Investigative Scholars Program (PRISE). A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Thoracic Society (ATS), Dr. Kopp has been deeply engaged with the ATS for more than 13 years, including leadership roles as program chair-elect and chair (2021-23), former web director and current planning committee chair for the Pediatrics Assembly in 2026.

Dr. Kopp’s research has advanced understanding of the immunobiology of cystic fibrosis and sickle cell lung disease, contributing to innovative care models and efforts to reduce health care disparities. A frequent national and international speaker, advocate for environmental health equity and dedicated mentor, he is recognized for bringing thoughtful, inclusive leadership to clinical care, research and education. In March 2026, Dr. Kopp returned to Nationwide Children’s as division chief of Pulmonary, Sleep Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis. His vision emphasizes innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, technological advancement and the development of future leaders in pediatric pulmonology.
