Center for Injury Research and Policy
The Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) of The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital works globally to reduce injury-related pediatric death and disability. With innovative research at its core, CIRP works to continually improve scientific understanding of the epidemiology, biomechanics, prevention, acute treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. CIRP serves as a pioneer by translating cutting edge injury research into education, advocacy and advances in clinical care.

The Abigail Wexner Research Institute is ranked among the top 10 for NIH funding among free-standing children's hospitals.
About the Center
CIRP was established in 1999 and became the first center of emphasis in The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. It was a CDC-funded Injury Control Research Center for 16 years until 2024, and the only one that focused on injuries to children and adolescents. CIRP faculty members have academic appointments at The Ohio State University and receive research funding support from many federal and state agencies and foundations. CIRP researchers publish a new scientific article, on average, every 3 days.
