Pulmonary, Sleep Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis: Why Us?

US News World Report Honor Roll

US News and World Report for Gastroenterology

In 2023, the first gene therapy of its kind for Duchenne muscular dystrophy was approved by the Food and Drug Administration under accelerated approval. This year, we saw expanded approval. We are proud to have been part of the research team conducting clinical trials supporting innovations in care for patients with muscular dystrophy. Our long history of collaboration with the Jerry R. Mendell Center for Gene Therapy in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute and the Neuromuscular Disorders Program here at Nationwide Children’s Hospital was also integral to the approval of the first systemically delivered gene therapy (Zolgensma® for spinal muscular atrophy) in 2019.

This past year our pulmonary clinics saw 18% growth. We also expanded our expertise and offerings by adding advanced bronchoscopy procedures, such as lung biopsies, balloon dilation of the bronchi and endobronchial valve placement for the treatment of bronchopulmonary fistulas.
