The overall goal of this fourth annual symposium is to provide a current, high-level summary of the state-of-the-art regarding mechanisms and management of pediatric urinary tract infection (UTI). A panel of experts will highlight knowledge gaps and make recommendations about the next steps for research to guide the care of patients with UTI. This includes the role for host-pathogen interactions in UTI pathogenesis, host defense mechanisms to prevent and eradicate UTI, urologic evaluation of patients with recurrent UTI, antibiotic prophylaxis in UTI prevention and the impact of recurrent UTI on the kidney. Facilitated discussions will provide opportunities to gather patient and caregiver perspectives and identify research opportunities and priorities to achieve the best future for children with UTI.
