What to Expect at Your Upcoming Cardiology Appointments
Fetal Medicine Visit #1
Goals of Visit:
- Introduction to heart problem and plan
- Introduction to fetal medicine team
Fetal Cardiology Visit #2
- Follow up fetal echo and Fetal Medicine Visit
- Meet with cardiologist
- Meet with newborn specialist (neonatologist)
- Meet with Fetal Nurse Coordinator and Single Ventricle Nurse Practioner
Goals of Visit:
- The diagnosis
- Review what will happen at delivery hospital and transfer of baby to Nationwide Children’s Hospital
- Understanding what surgery or intervention is expected before discharge home from the hospital
- Discussing expectations for hospital stay before and after surgery
- Review resources/additional services to help provide support
Fetal Cardiology Visit #3
- Follow up fetal echo
- Meet with cardiologist
- Meet with newborn specialist (neonatologist) if not already done.
- Meet with Fetal Nurse Coordinator, Single Ventricle Nurse Practitioner and Nurse
- Tour of Nationwide Children's Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
Goals of Visit:
- Reviewing the diagnosis
- Reviewing what will happen at the time of delivery and in the first 1-2 days of life
- Introduce research studies currently being offered at Nationwide Children's Hospital
- Understanding long term plan for surgeries
- Reviewing expected long term outcome/prognosis
- Resources on additional services to help provide support
- Discussing preparing to take your baby home from hospital
