Pediatric Elective FAQs
What is the difference between this scholarship rotation and a regular rotation that I apply for in VSLO?
The regular VSLO application and rotation does not come with funding and housing support nor additional resident and faculty mentors who are not part of your clinical rotation. Due to the limited spots available and the additional benefits and resources involved, we have different criteria for acceptance for the scholarship program.
What is needed for this application?
a. Current CV
b. Current Academic transcript
c. USMLE or COMPLEX transcript
d. Letter of Interest (no more than one page) detailing:
i. What past experiences influenced your pediatric interest?
ii. Why are you interested in this opportunity at Nationwide Children's? Any ties to the region?
iii. How will you contribute to Nationwide Children's mission now and in the future? Please click here for NCH's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
e. Signed statement of Support from Local Pediatrics Clerkship Director or designee -- this is not a letter of recommendation. Just an official sign off from your institution.
Who may qualify for the scholarship?
4th year students who are in good standing at a US accredited medical school that has program agreement with The Ohio State University College of Medicine but does not already have an affiliation and standing rotations with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Who is the ideal candidate?
We are looking for students whose personal goals and prior experiences align with NCH mission and strategic plan and who might be a good fit for our residency. For information, please see: https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/about-us/who-we-are/mission-vision-and-values and https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/about-us/how-we-lead/strategic-plan
If I do not get the scholarship rotation, can I still rotate at Nationwide Children’s Hospital?
Yes! We would still love for you to rotate with us. You can still apply through VSLO.
