Jeffrey Leonard, MD, is chief of Neurosurgery and the Robert F. & Edgar T. Wolfe Foundation Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He is also a principal investigator in the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute and a professor of Neurological Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Leonard, who joined Nationwide Children’s in 2014, has more than 20 years of experience in pediatric neurosurgery. He is renowned for his expertise in specialized neurosurgical procedures, such as selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) and the surgical treatment for highly complex brain tumors.
He completed medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1995 and then moved to St. Louis for an internship in general surgery and neurosurgery residency training at Washington University. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery before joining the faculty where he spent the next 11 years. During that time, he served as co-director of the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program and a co-director of the Neuro-Oncology Program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Leonard has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is active with a number of professional organizations, including American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons (ASPN), American Association of Neurological Surgeons (ANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).
