Gail Besner, MD, Named 2024 Allen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatric Research
Gail Besner, MD, chief of Pediatric Surgery and principal investigator in the Center for Perinatal Research in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, was named the 2024 Allen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatric Research. The award is given in honor of former Nationwide Children’s CEO, Steve Allen, MD, and his role in growing the AWRI into a preeminent research institution.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Names Jason Newland, MD, MEd, Chief of Infectious Diseases
Nationwide Children’s Hospital welcomes Jason Newland, MD, MEd, as the division chief of Infectious Diseases and an associate investigator in the Center for Child Health Equity and Outcomes Research in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s. Dr. Newland is also a tenured professor at The Ohio State University and will hold the Cramblett Endowed Chair in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

Center for Surgical Outcomes Research (CSOR)
The mission of CSOR is to improve children's' care through a comprehensive, patient-centered surgical outcomes research program to determine the optimal management of surgical diseases in children.

If a child over the age of 4 has difficulties holding their urine (urinary incontinence) and physicians are unable to identify an anatomical or neurological cause, they may diagnose the child with voiding dysfunction.
