Protective Services Careers

Each day brings new opportunities and experiences working in the world of Protective Services. Just like our hospital, Protective Services operates 24/7, 365 days a year, keeping Nationwide Children’s a safe place every day. Our officers are highly respected, well-trained and considered a collaborative partner in the patient care team.

Our Protective Services team earned the “Program of Distinction” Security Department Accreditation, through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety. All of our officers have earned at least one of the accreditations that are offered by the Association. Our team of around 150 staff members is composed of former/retired military personnel, college graduates and current and former law enforcement personnel.

We are proud to have a professional staff whose main passion is serving and assisting our patients, families and employees while helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for all.

"Females can contribute to the world just as much as males. We push male-dominated workforces to be stronger and we work hard to be successful ourselves. Strive for success to obtain the goals you chose in life. Don't let anything or anyone deter you in achieving your dreams."

“I love what I do and there are several moments that have stuck with me since I started here about 9 years ago. We had one young girl here that I’m sad to say did pass away, but over the months that she was coming in for treatment, she didn’t talk to any of the security officers but me. The parents had me come to her room and sit with her when she was on her last days and it really touched me how she attached to me.”

Charles, Senior Protective Services Officer

“My role entails keeping the staff and families safe and happy… some days that may be helping carry in diaper bags, car seats or maybe even just helping talk with the kids and help keep busy so mom or dad can complete the check in process. Other days may be jumping a parent’s car or helping them find a resource to get home, or maybe another day is handling a code violet. Security plays many roles but I like to think my number one job is customer service experienced in a way you can only get at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.”
