In a new study, published in PLOS One, researchers at the Center for Injury Research and Policy, Center for Pediatric Trauma Research, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Orthopedics, and Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital compared the amount of opioid analgesics prescribed to children following enactment of the Ohio Opioid Cap Law with historical controls.

Study Finds Household Cleaning Products Remain a Leading Source of Child Injury

Researchers from the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital have found more than an estimated 240,800 visits to U.S. emergency departments (EDs) associated with household cleaning product-related injuries from 2007 through 2022 for children aged five years and younger. That’s one injury every 35 minutes.

Study Shows Sharp Rise in Rate of Water Bead Ingestions Among Young Children

Researchers at the Center for Injury Research and Policy of the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Central Ohio Poison Center analyzed calls to U.S. poison centers and found an alarming 6,532% increase in the rate of reported water bead ingestions among children younger than 6 years from 2019 to 2023, followed by a 24% decrease from 2023 to 2024.

Study supports virotherapy as a potential treatment for brain tumors

A new study provides additional evidence of the efficacy of virotherapy for glioblastoma, the most deadly type of brain tumor. The research findings, published Feb. 1, 2022, in Clinical Cancer Research, indicate that an oncolytic herpes simplex virus, G207, appears to boost immune response and that this is associated with better overall survival for patients with glioblastoma.
