Trauma Education

The Trauma Program provides education to health care providers as well as children and families in our community. In addition to the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course, the Nationwide Children’s trauma program provides pediatric trauma outreach presentations to healthcare providers in the region reviewing how to initiate resuscitation of critically injured children so that morbidity and mortality are reduced. Simulation sometimes is provided with the outreach.

Members of the Trauma Program are instructors for nationally recognized trauma courses such as the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) available in the Central Ohio region. Trauma program physicians and nurses also speak to health care professionals at the state and national level on topics related to recognizing, treating and preventing pediatric injuries. Our car seat safety specialists teach children and families about injury prevention and safety so that they will lead healthy and happy lives.

Burn Program Education

The Burn Program has strong educational, community outreach, and research components. Multiple lectures on pediatric burn care provided yearly to in-hospital care providers as well as to the EMS staff and community medical personnel. The hospital provides Advanced Burn Life Support courses, a school re-entry program for children that have been burned, a burn prevention program in the community schools, and the "New Kids on the Block" puppet presentation for burn safety education to pre-schoolers. Lastly, burn research at Nationwide Children's is conducted in the NIH-funded Pediatric Surgery Research Laboratories of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
