COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 5K for Kids’ Mental Health will return for a third year to Columbus Crew’s ScottsMiracle-Gro Field on Sunday, May 31. The race, hosted by the Columbus Crew with lead support from presenting sponsor Bread Financial and founding partner Nationwide, is a family-friendly community run and walk to grow awareness and raise funds for The Kids Mental Health Foundation.
The mission of The Kids Mental Health Foundation, founded by Nationwide Children’s Hospital, is to provide free, expert-created mental health resources to all U.S. communities to build a world where mental health is a vital part of the upbringing of every child.
“We are thrilled to be holding the 5K at Columbus Crew’s field once again,” said Ariana Hoet, PhD, executive clinical director of The Kids Mental Health Foundation and pediatric psychologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “Every participant in the 5K is helping us provide free resources that teach mental health and wellness skills, so all adults with a kid in their life—both in central Ohio and across the country—can help us build a world where mental health is a vital part of every child’s upbringing.”
With a goal of 1,500 participants, plus hundreds of spectators and volunteers, the race will start and finish at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field and take participants on a walk or run through the heart of downtown Columbus. Once participants have completed the 5K, they are invited to celebrate in the Chase Plaza at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field until noon. There will be fun activities, snacks, beverages, and more.
“It’s a privilege for ScottsMiracle-Gro Field to play a role in supporting this year’s 5K for Kids’ Mental Health, especially after the incredible turnout and energy we saw last year,” said Stephanie Cedeño, Crew Director of Community Relations. “The Kids Mental Health Foundation and Nationwide Children’s Hospital provide invaluable leadership in advancing awareness and access to resources for children’s mental health, not just through this event, but year-round. We see every day how sports and physical activity can bring people together, build confidence, and support overall well-being. We’re thankful for the leadership of The Kids Mental Health Foundation and Nationwide Children’s Hospital and proud to help create space for this important cause in our community.”
Registration is now open, with options to participate individually or as part of a team. A virtual participation option is also available for those unable to attend in Columbus on race day. Adult registration is $50 and includes a commemorative T-shirt and medal, with opportunities to fundraise in support of The Kids Mental Health Foundation. Participants can also earn swag, VIP Columbus Crew experiences, and additional incentives by reaching various fundraising milestones. Children ages 5 to 12 can be registered for $25.
The race starts at 9 a.m. at the stadium (96 Columbus Crew Way, Columbus, OH 43215). Packet pick-up begins at 7:30 a.m., and the program starts at 8:40 a.m.
The 5K for Kids’ Mental Health would not be possible without the generous support of partners, Bread Financial, the Columbus Crew, Nationwide, and more.
“As a founding partner of this family-friendly 5K, Nationwide is honored to join the Columbus Crew to showcase the work the Kids Mental Health Foundation is doing to provide important mental health resources to kids, families, coaches and educators - here in our own community and across the country,” said Jim McCoy, vice president of sports marketing for Nationwide. “We’re looking forward to another great event, running or walking alongside our neighbors to address and promote children’s mental health.”
The 5K is also made possible with the support of dedicated sponsors. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available.
