Nationwide Children’s Hospital Receives $25 Million Gift to Support Institute for Mental and Behavioral Health Research
Nationwide Children’s Hospital announced today that longtime donors Joe and Linda Chlapaty have donated $25 million to support the recently launched Institute for Mental and Behavioral Health Research. The gift will fund innovative research, endowed faculty to recruit nationally renowned researchers, and construction for new facilities.

Dr. Gary Smith Named Allen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatric Research
Gary A. Smith, MD, DrPH, director and founder of the Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has been named the 2026 Steve Allen MD Distinguished Scholar in Pediatric Research. The award is given in honor of former Nationwide Children’s CEO, Steve Allen, MD, and his role in developing Nationwide Children’s into a preeminent pediatric research institution.

New Initiative Aims to Improve Diagnosis and Treatment of Children with Solid Tumors Through Molecular Analysis
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health, Children’s Oncology Group (COG), and Nationwide Children's Hospital are poised to change the direction of pediatric cancer diagnosis and care. New results from international efforts to characterize pediatric cancers have led to the Molecular Characterization Initiative: a project that aims to collect, analyze, and report clinical molecular data to support COG-affiliated clinicians in choosing the best treatment for each child. This program is part of the NCI Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI).
