January 5, 2026

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Nationwide Children’s Hospital - Toledo is excited to announce that BTC Toledo recently donated the property at 1946 North 13th Street in Toledo to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation. The property, which is approximately 6.6 acres, and houses several local community organizations and businesses, transitioned to the hospital’s ownership at the end of 2025. Nationwide Children’s - Toledo has not yet finalized plans for the building or property yet.

“This remarkably generous gift will allow Nationwide Children’s - Toledo to continue expanding our infrastructure and provides us an opportunity to help even more children achieve their best outcomes,” said Rick Miller, President of Nationwide Children’s - Toledo. “The donation from BTC Toledo and the Pennie family will improve the lives of children and families in northwest Ohio for decades to come. We’re grateful that the Pennie family has chosen to contribute in this way to our goal of nurturing the highest-quality pediatric care in Toledo.”

“Our family and company have a long history in Toledo and will forever be champions of the city. Nationwide Children’s - Toledo has shown that they are eager to improve access to healthcare for children throughout the region. So, we were excited by the opportunity to donate this property to expand on that work and meaningfully impact health care for kids,” said Sarah Pennie Thompson of BTC Toledo.

Current tenants were notified about the transition to new ownership at the end of the year. The hospital has transitioned property management to NAI Ohio Equities and is working with tenants to evaluate future space needs and plans.

Although plans have not been finalized for the property, Nationwide Children’s - Toledo is committed to making the best possible use of the site to benefit the community, said Libbey Hoang, Vice President, Planning and Business Development at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

“While specific plans are still being developed, the possibilities are wide ranging—from supporting patient care and population health initiatives—to creating space for local nonprofits and community partners,” Hoang said. “In Columbus, we routinely collaborate with health systems and nonprofits to develop facilities and programs that address the greatest areas of need. We will take the same thoughtful approach here, ensuring that whatever goes into this space reflects the priorities of children and families in northwest Ohio.”
