Holiday Magic to Arrive in Bicentennial Park

Holiday lights will illuminate the Scioto Mile beginning Friday, December 2 during the Grand Illumination presented by Justice.
 
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department will decorate Bicentennial Park and the Scioto Mile Promenade in all seasonal decorations featuring more than 250,000 energy efficient LED lights on 150 trees. The Scioto Mile Fountain presented by the American Electric Power Foundation will come alive for the holiday season with festive video projections and illuminated spheres suspended from each of the five fountain halos. The lights will twinkle in Bicentennial Park and along the Scioto Mile through January 8, 2017.
 
The holiday season on the Scioto Mile will kick off with a festive celebration including:
Traditional carols performed by the Columbus Children’s Choir and a spirited performance by the SupaFun Band. 
Appearances by the Holiday Juggling Elves, The Amazing Giants, Masha & the Bear and Clara with her Nutcracker Prince from BalletMet’s annual holiday production.  
Hands-on crafts and activities in the North Pole Tinkershop to create holiday crafts with Franklin Park Conservatory, McKnight Outdoor Education Center, OSU Urban Arts Space, the Recreation & Parks Arts Committee and Bring the Farm to You. 
Giveaways from Justice, HERO USA, Mad River Mountain and more.
Visits with Santa!
 
In the spirit of giving, attendees are encouraged to help brighten the holidays for a hospitalized child. Nationwide Children’s Hospital will treat more than 10,000 children during the month of December. Join Justice and Nationwide Children’s in sending a holiday get well message to every child. Visit nationwidechildrens.org/justice for more information or to send an e-card now. In addition, Justice will distribute 4,500 pairs of HoloSpex snowflake glasses during Grand Illumination!
 
Attendees can also support the Empty Bowls project by purchasing a piece of handcrafted pottery and receiving a bowl of hearty chicken and dumpling soup compliments of Milestone 229 or a bowl of tomato Florentine soup compliments of Giant Eagle.  Cookies, compliments of Cheryl’s, and hot chocolate will also be available.  All proceeds benefit the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
