Nationwide Childrens Hospital Championship announces record-setting charitable donation

November 13, 2015

Tournament officials announced today that the ninth annual Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, held September 21-27, 2015 at The Ohio State University Golf Club - Scarlet Course, raised a total of $1,400,212 for charitable organizations, including $1,253,322 for pediatric cancer research and treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The total marks the largest single-season charitable donation raised by the tournament for the hospital in the nine-year history of the Web.com Tour Finals event. Since its inception in 2007 the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship has donated a total of over $5,728,322 in support of the hospital’s pediatric cancer program.

“This is the second straight year we’ve been able to eclipse the million-dollar mark on our single-season giving total to Nationwide Children’s Hospital through this tournament,” said Terrance Williams, Chairman of the Board of the tournament’s host organization, Champions of the Community. “Providing support for pediatric cancer research and treatment at Nationwide Children’s is a primary focus of the tournament. It’s our great pleasure to be in a position to help advance this critical mission. This record-setting donation is made possible by the generosity of our corporate sponsors, whose support is critical to our success. We also thank our loyal volunteers, central Ohio golf fans who continue to support the tournament each year and the members and staff at The Ohio State University Golf Club for their vital role as our host site. We look forward to future opportunities to build on our successes and continue to support Nationwide Children’s Hospital.”

“On behalf of the patients, families and staff, we are grateful to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship and Web.com Tour for their generosity,” Steve Allen, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Nationwide Children’s Hospital, said. “Another record-high donation in 2015 exemplifies the tournament and community’s support for our pediatric cancer program during the past nine years and this ongoing commitment plays a significant role in helping to raise vital awareness of our mission to help children everywhere.”

On September 23, 2015 a three-year extension of the agreement between the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship and the PGA TOUR was announced that insures the tournament will continue as a Web.com Tour Finals event through 2018. Additionally, a three-year agreement with The Ohio State University Golf Club was announced, confirming the Scarlet Course will continue to host the tournament.  An option for an additional three years was included within both agreements.

The 2016 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship will be held September 19 – 25 at The Ohio State University Golf Club – Scarlet Course and once again be the third of four stops in the Web.com Tour Finals.
