Miguel Saps, MD, has joined the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition as an attending gastroenterologist and director of research for the Motility Center. He is also professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Saps is an internationally recognized expert in pediatric motility disorders. Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s, he led the gastrointestinal motility and functional bowel disorders program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Saps is an active member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) and chairs its International Committee. He is also active with the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society (ANMS), serving as councilor, and as vice chair of the Clinical Practice, Coding and Billing Committee. In addition, Dr. Saps is a member of the Rome IV Committee that focuses on functional gastrointestinal disorders in children and adolescents.
In his new role, Dr. Saps will be leading research into functional gastrointestinal disorders including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and constipation in children.

Dr. Saps attended medical school at the Universidad de la Republica in Montevideo, Uruguay, and then specialized in pediatrics at Hospital Pereyra-Rossell in Montevideo, Uruguay. He then completed a residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and a fellowship at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
He has consistently been named among America’s “Best Doctors” and has received numerous recognitions throughout his career, including the World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, & Nutrition Young Investigator Award, the American College of Gastroenterology Governors Award for Excellence in Clinical Research, and the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders - Junior Pediatric Investigator, Basic or Clinical Science Award.
