Nationwide Childrens Hospital to Host Marysville Family Day to Celebrate Close to Home Center with Urgent Care Opening

May 5, 2014

The public is invited to “Marysville Family Day” in celebration of the opening of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Close To Home Center with Urgent Care Saturday, May 17, from 10 am to 1 pm at 100 Coleman’s Crossing Blvd. in the City Gate Development.  The free event will include tours of the new facility, free healthy refreshments, face painting, arts and crafts, interactive activities, cookie decorating, spring/summer safety tips, a Union County students’ art display, games and prizes, and a chance to win a family fun pack of gift cards totaling $200.  Nut- and gluten-free food options will be available.

“We’re looking forward to providing these new services in Union County and hope everyone will stop by our Family Day celebration to see the new facility,” said Marysville resident Kent Weakley, Regional Site Director for Nationwide Children’s.  “Nationwide Children’s provided care for 12,125 pediatric patient visits from Union County last year alone, so we view this Center as an expansion of our services to the community, making it easier for families to access our services ‘close to home.’"

With no current dedicated pediatric urgent care facilities in Marysville, the two-story, 20,000 feet Center is slated to open Wednesday, May 21, offering specialized pediatric expertise to the community, provided by medical professionals dedicated solely to the provision of pediatric healthcare services.  Laboratory, radiology, speech, sports medicine and urgent care services will be offered, with decisions still pending regarding specialty clinics and/or additional services.

“Our Close To Home Centers with Urgent Care are always designed to support services already provided by community physicians,” Weakley added.  “And as we do each time we establish a Center, we have worked with community pediatricians, family practice physicians and community members in order to understand the community’s needs and determine the types of services that will be provided.”

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital care model focuses on the importance of a "medical home" and parents are always advised to consult first with their child's physician.  In addition, the model is designed to deliver care in partnership with a patient’s primary care physician, which includes consistent, timely reporting to physicians regarding care provided to their patients.  With the addition of the new Marysville center, Nationwide Children’s will operate 17 Close To Home Centers in Central Ohio, providing community-based testing, treatment and care for newborns, children and adolescents.

Nationwide Children’s estimates 40 jobs at the Center, accompanied by an investment of approximately $6 million in capital for the building, with about $2 million annually in salary/benefits.  The general contractor for the project is Thomas & Marker Construction of Bellefontaine and the architect is DesignGroup of Columbus.  More information about the new Marysville Close To Home Center with Urgent Care is available at
