The Research Institute at Nationwide Childrens Hospital has been awarded a $541,190 grant as part of the FY 09 Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program for Improving Resources and Services for Victims of Crime by the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance.

These Federal stimulus dollars will be used to support the efforts at our Center in case tracking and communications to  minimize trauma to victims and  ensure optimal collaborative partnerships to achieve the best outcomes for child victims of crime, said Philip V. Scribano, DO, MSCE, medical director for the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Childrens Hospital.  "In addition, the funding will allow us to increase staff to expand involvement with families when abuse is initially evaluated and offer support during the critical period of disclosure and investigation.  Scribano is also chief of the Division of Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Childrens and associate professor of Clinical Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

According to the Department of Justice grant project description, the Center for Child and Family Advocacy is a state-of-the-art, evidence-based and progressive approach to supporting abused children through one stop, comprehensive services for victims and their non-offending family members.  This project will help to significantly increase the number of child victims receiving the services needed for successful treatment .

The Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program is designed to help communities improve the capacity of state and local justice systems and provide for national support efforts including training and technical assistance programs strategically targeted to address local needs.
