Merrill Lynch Bull Run 5K Slated for August 8 in Arena District

For runners looking to fill their Saturday morning with fun for the whole family, the Merrill Lynch Bull Run is the perfect event. Held in the Arena District Saturday, August 8, it includes a 5K run/walk, Kids Fun Run and educational programming from COSI and the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. The event, hosted by the Merrill Lynch Buckeye Complex, will raise funds for local charities including Nationwide Childrens Hospital.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. with the Kids Fun Run beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a certified 5K run/walk starting at 9 a.m. The pre-registration entry fee is $25 for adults and $15 for kids. On the day of the race the entry fee will be $30 for adults and $20 for kids.

The event will include educational programs provided by COSI on Wheels and The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, music, magicians, face painting, balloon animal twisters, a Columbus fire engine and local mascots. Food will be provided by local Dairy Queen and Tim Hortons.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Ocean Room at Nationwide Childrens Hospital initiated by a group of sixth-grade students from Columbus Academy, the Ocean Room, which looks and feels like an underwater wonderland, lets patients select a toy before their operation to help overcome surgery anxieties. The Bull Run has committed to fund the Ocean Room through 2012, which gives away toys at a rate of about 3,000 5,000 per year.
