Nationwide Childrens Hospital staff and friends gathered last evening Wednesday, September 3 to honor two recipients of the 2008 Career Contribution Awards. The special distinction is awarded by Nationwide Childrens medical staff to a select few of its most highly respected peers. The award is given to those who, in the eyes of their fellow physicians, have exemplified themselves through a lifetime commitment to maintaining the highest quality of health care service and helping Nationwide Childrens build a trademark reputation as a local, regional and national leader in pediatrics.
The 2008 recipients are as follows:
Michael T. Brady, MD, Infectious Diseases
Michael T. Brady, MD, appointed to Nationwide Childrens Hospital medical staff in 1983, served as medical staff president in 2000 and Physician-in-Chief since 2005. His hospital positions have included physician director of the Medical Subspecialty Clinics, investigator in The Research Institute, physician director of Epidemiology, physician director of the HIV Program and director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. Dr. Brady is an alumnus of Jefferson Medical College (1977) and is the vice chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Red Book Committee. He has served as the chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine since 2006 and is a professor of Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine. In 1993, Dr. Brady was presented with the Teacher of the Year Award at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and honored with the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2000. He has been listed in Americas Best Doctors for 10-consecutive years.
Louis J.R. Goorey, MD, General Pediatrics
Louis J.R. Goorey, MD, appointed to Nationwide Childrens Hospital medical staff in 1960, served as the past medical staff president in 1986 and has been the Nationwide Childrens representative for the American Medical Association since 1988. Dr. Goorey was a professor of Clinical Pediactrics at his alma mater The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He was presented with the Distinquished Alumnus Award for his outstanding work at The Ohio State University and was named the Arnold Friedman Community Pediatrician of the Year for advocacy, training and involvement in the community in 2007. For more than 10 years (1985-97), Dr. Goorey was the medical director for the community Mutual/Anthem Insurance Co. He has served on the Worthington City Council Board since 1973.
