Kosnik Named Neurosurgeon of the Year

Edward J. Kosnik, MD, FACS, FAAP, associate medical director of the Department of Surgery and chief of the Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Nationwide Childrens Hospital, was honored with the Ohio Neurosurgeon of the Year Award by the Ohio State Neurosurgical Society (OSNS) at the Societys annual meeting September 29.  He is also a clinical professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

The recipient of this award is chosen by the OSNS leadership to honor a surgeons dedication to caring for Ohioans throughout his career and to recognize his contributions to the quality of neurosurgery care provided.  The mission of the OSNS is to enhance the quality and availability of neurosurgical care for Ohioans. 

According to OSNS President Shenandoah Robinson, MD, Dr. Kosnik has not only cared for many of Ohios children, but also contributed to the education of neurosurgeons who trained through The Ohio State Universitys residency program.

Dr. Kosnik graduated cum laude with his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his internship at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.  He completed residencies at New York Universitys Bellevue Medical Center and The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.  He joined the medical staff of Nationwide Childrens Hospital in 1976.  His special interests include the treatment of pediatric brain tumors, hydrocephalus, craniostenosis and various other congenital abnormalities, and spasticity. 

The author of numerous papers on neurology and neurosurgery, Dr. Kosnik is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.
