From Sweet Treats to Selfless Acts: How One Girl Turned Her Diagnosis into a Mission of Hope
When 13-year-old Jaselyn decided to donate the proceeds from her 4-H hog sale to Nationwide Children's Hospital, her family was proud - but she didn't stop there. With help from her Nana, Jaselyn spent countless evenings making hundreds of dozens of homepage buckeyes and pounds of fudge to raise even more. Inspired by her own journey with type 1 diabetes, Jaselyn transformed her personal challenges into an outpouring of generosity, rallying her entire community to support a cause close to her heart.

Launching in November and continuing through the holiday season, the lawn along Livingston Avenue in front of Nationwide Children’s will be transformed with an impressive butterfly-themed light display. Dozens of multi-colored butterflies will cover the lawn, illuminating each time a donation is made.
The “Light Up the Lawn, Light Up a Life” display will be visible to pediatric patients and their families in the hospital tower as they look out at the lawn below, creating a joyful, impactful experience during the holiday season.

In 1892, a group of citizens held a sale to raise money for the care of sick, impoverished children. That effort led to the opening of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 1894. For more than a century, we have existed to care for every child, for every reason.
The Foundation is the fundraising arm of Nationwide Children’s. Our job – with your help – is to ensure much needed funds are available for innovative research, emerging trends in pediatric health, and to react to our ever changing world. Philanthropy ensures that we can dream big.
