From Fragile Beginnings to Bright Possibilities: Meet Sophia
Born at just 32 weeks with life‑threatening conditions diagnosed before and after birth, Sophia spent her earliest months fighting overwhelming medical challenges inside Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s NICU. Through expert, compassionate care and extraordinary resilience, she slowly gained strength—learning to breathe on her own, grow, and defy every expectation placed before her.
Today, Sophia is a joyful, curious little girl, and her remarkable journey is a powerful testament to hope, perseverance, and the difference lifesaving care can make.

The Memorial Tournament has supported Nationwide Children’s Hospital for more than 47 years, raising funds through volunteers and community initiatives to benefit critical programs like the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
This support helps Nationwide Children’s provide advanced, life-saving care to over 3,000 newborns each year while working to improve outcomes and prevent complications of prematurity.

In 1892, a group of citizens held a sale to raise money for the care of sick, impoverished children. That effort led to the opening of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 1894. For more than a century, we have existed to care for every child, for every reason.
The Foundation is the fundraising arm of Nationwide Children’s. Our job – with your help – is to ensure much needed funds are available for innovative research, emerging trends in pediatric health, and to react to our ever changing world. Philanthropy ensures that we can dream big.
