Dog Visit Program

Special Notice: Volunteer Opportunities

Blue Megaphone With the continued concerns regarding COVID-19, our utmost responsibility as a health care system is to keep our patients, employees, volunteers and visitors safe. As a proactive step to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we have paused onsite volunteering at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The goal of this temporary pause is to help people remain away from others and slow the virus’ spread.

Our timeline is undetermined, as our priority will be to have our current volunteers return safely sometime in 2021. Until then we have suspended the acceptance and processing of new volunteer applications.

We appreciate everything volunteers do for our patients, guests and staff. We look forward to welcoming volunteers back and will update this page when the volunteer restrictions are lifted.

About Our Dog Visit Program

Nationwide Children's Hospital’s dog visit program is part of regularly scheduled activities for patients and their families.  Dogs and their owners are required to be certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI).

Once volunteers and their dogs are approved they schedule visits directly with Nationwide Children's Family and Volunteer Services Department.  Visits take place in public areas (not at patient bedside).  Most volunteers and dogs visit monthly.

Thank you for your interest in our dog visit program, at this time our program and waiting list are full.  Please try back at another time.

Individuals without current TDI certification need to contact one of these organizations directly to learn more about the requirements, testing process and schedule.
